Unfortunately its asking for a serial number which i dont have, I was under the impression it would detect if a drive was WD and so shouldn't need one.
I have a new Win 7 Dell XPS8700, and am desiring to Clone the existing hard drive. Both the Dell original drive and the copy are internal WD drives.
The download is atih_installer_wd_US-en.exe
The software says at least one WD drives must be present.
On an hour call with WD support, after having me plug the SATA drives into different motherboard connectors, he suggested I install the latest driver from the Dell website for the Intel Rapid Storage. I did with no change.
He said to install your free 30 day trial, but it does not contain the ability to do a disk clone.
I have been using your software for many years on my prior computer with excellent success.
How do I proceed??

I have never used the WD Edition, which is a much-reduced application and based on an old version of True Image. There may be limitations and specifics of the WD Edition that I'm unfamiliar with. I use the paid Acronis True Image.

Acronis WD Edition actually does clone hard drives, in fact I'm here using one I just did mere moments ago. It worked, but I got confused like many people.
Quite simply, this software WILL NOT RECOGNIZE NON-FORMATTED HARD DRIVES! Western Digital included, even though this software is supposedly written for them.
I launched the program, it saw my drives, and everything seemed fine until I erased the destination drive. Suddenly I got those 'non-Western Digital' warnings. Did a quick online search to see it's a common problem.
So I thought, 'Hey, it saw it, then it disappeared, even in Windows. Hmmm, could it be formatting?'
Sure enough, disconnected the SATA cable from the primary drive, leaving only the blank destination drive connected, re-booted with a Windows 7 DVD and formatted it before backing out of a full install. Re-connected the master drive and launched Acronis again after bootup, and there it was!

Acronis WD clone program is a primitive sledgehammer, but it works!
I never felt safe and secure throughout this ordeal, and I'm very happy it worked, especially when the new drive fully booted without issue. During the process Windows 7 kept hitting me with (somewhat hidden) authorization warnings, and somehow my PC finally re-booted to do the task. It started with a countdown of around 15 minutes, and each minute turned out to be 5 or 10. As time went on I began to think this will crash or something, but it worked.
So there you go, Acronis WD works as long as it can see a Western Digital Drive, one that is formatted.
I am trying to clone my existing 500GB laptop drive to a new WD SSD Blue 500GB using Acronis True Image WD Edition that was downloaded from the WD site.
The WD SSD Dashboard can see my USB-attached WD SSD Blue 500GB.
However, when I try to run the Acronis WD Edition software it says 'Acronis True Image WD Edition Installation Restricted - This product edition requires at least one Western Digital drive to be installed in your system'
How do I fix this?
UPDATE 1 :
I have temporarily bypassed this problem by plugging in one of my other WD external USB hard drives.

UPDATE 2:
I can now get through the source and destination disk selection process in Acronis. The cloning screen starts up and then I get a 'You Must Reboot Computer to continue' message.
When I do that (3 times so far) It just reboots the computer. The Acronis cloning procedure does not restart. A check in Task Manager confirms that no Acronis process is running.

I finally gave up on Aronis.
I finally got it working by using the free edition of EaseUS ToDo Backup.
It didn't work for me the first time because I didn't read the instructions and I didn't check the Advanced Settings (or something like that) and made sure that 'Sector by sector clone' and 'Optimize for SSD' boxes were checked.
Once I did that, the clone worked out fine, although it seemed to take forever, like 3 hours.
